On September 17, on Anant Chaturdashi, eleven days of Ganesha idols will be immersed and preparations for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been completed. About 12 thousand officers and employees of the BMC will be working to make the immersion easy and smooth. Also, 71 control rooms, 204 artificial lakes with 69 natural immersion sites and various other facilities have been prepared.


The BMC has made special preparations for Ganesh Visarjan. 192 control rooms have been operationalised at the level of administrative departments including the main control room to coordinate the employees of various departments of the civic body. In view of security, 66 observation towers have been erected. 72 reception rooms have been prepared at various places.


At Girgaon Chowpatty, various civic services and facilities are provided to the devotees through the D Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini visited the place and inspected the entire system on Sunday.


On Anant Chaturdashi day, large Ganesha idols are immersed. Therefore, 478 steel plates have been arranged on the banks of the Chowpatty and 43 German rafts have also been arranged at various places to immerse the small Ganesha idols so that the vehicles coming to immerse the Ganesha idols do not get stuck in the sand on the Chowpatty.

Deputy Commissioner Prashant Sapkale informed that 48 motorboats along with 761 lifeguards have been deployed at Chowpatty from a security point of view. 274 Nirmalya vehicles including 163 Nirmalya urns have been arranged to collect the Nirmalya garlands, flowers etc. offered by the devotees before immersion.


67 ambulances along with 75 first aid centres have also been kept ready by the health department. About 1,097 floodlights and 27 searchlights have been installed on poles and high places in collaboration with 'BEST' for an effective lighting scheme. 127 mobile toilets have been kept ready for the convenience of the citizens coming for bathing. At the same time, trained manpower along with equipped vehicles of the fire brigade have been deployed by the Municipal Corporation to deal with the emergency situation.


204 artificial ponds

This year, the BMC has created as many as 204 artificial lakes to celebrate Ganeshotsav in an environmentally friendly manner. Devotees and Ganesha devotees will also get information about these artificial lakes through QR code. After scanning this 'QR code', information about artificial lakes in Mumbai and Google map link will be available to the devotees. Precautions to be taken during immersion-

1. Do not try to go into deep sea water.

2. The help of trained manpower appointed by the Municipal Corporation should be taken for immersion of the idol.

3. Avoid visiting Ganesha idol in dark places.

4. Do not attempt to enter areas where swimming is prohibited by the BMC.

5. If you notice someone drowning in the sea or lake, immediately report to the fire brigade, police or lifeguards.

6. Do not spread rumours or believe any rumours.

7. Devotees should take special care of small children. Do not allow them to enter the water.


Tides and tides on Anant Chaturdashi day

This year, on Anant Chaturdashi (September 17, 2024), the sea will have a high tide of 4.54 metres at 11:14 am, a low tide of 0.86 metres at 5:22 pm, and a high tide of 4:39 metres at 11.34 pm.


On September 18, 2024 at 5:27 am the low tide will be 0.48 m, at 11:37 am the high tide will be 4.71 m. The BMC administration has appealed to the citizens who come to the chowpatty for immersion during this high tide as well as the low tide.


First aid facility for fish bite

During the period of August to October, the sea coast of Mumbai is more abundant with the species of 'Blue Button Jellyfish', 'StingRay'. A medical room has been kept ready in the Chowpatty area in case of fish bite. Also '108 ambulances' have been deployed.
