The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday, December 22, issued a set of guidelines for passengers arriving in Mumbai from Europe and Middle East nations and said that seven days’ institutional quarantine will be mandatory for these passengers.

As per the guidelines, a RT-PCR test will not be done at the time of arrival. The passengers will have to undergo the RT-PCR test on the fifth or seventh day of the institutional quarantine. Passengers with a negative test report will be discharged and they will be required to stay in home quarantine for seven days. However, the passengers with a positive report will be directed to continue to quarantine at the same hotel or in a state-designated COVID-19 facility for another 14 days.

According to the civic body officials, about 591 passengers returned from the UK on Tuesday, December 22. Out of 591 passengers, 236 belong to different states. However, all the passengers have been kept in the hotel for 7 days as a part of institutional quarantine protocol. Hotel rates range from INR 1,000 to INR 4,500 per night. It will include three meals a day and evening tea.

Travellers will be able to select the hotel according to their choice and the passengers will have to bear the cost at the hotel. Passports of passengers will be deposited at the hotel which will be returned to them at the time of discharge.
