According to the administration, the historic hall is already facing space constraints due to an increase in the number of corporators, officials, and media personnel. Officials said seating arrangements themselves are insufficient, leaving no room for additional statues.
The proposal to install Vajpayee’s statue was first raised in 2018 by a former corporator. However, the civic body stated that the hall already houses multiple statues and portraits of prominent leaders, making it difficult to accommodate new additions.
Authorities suggested that if required, the statue could be installed in another committee hall instead of the main assembly hall. The final decision on the matter will rest with the elected representatives.
The administration also pointed out that similar proposals in the past for statues of other notable figures had been rejected due to the same space limitations.
