The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has decided to improve the air quality. For this, the BMC has implemented various measures and has emphasised on the purchase of updated machines. To control the dust in Mumbai, the BMC has decided to purchase battery operated dust suction machines. A special provision has been made for this purpose in the budget of the year 2025-26. The BMC intends to make these machines operational in the next five to six months.
The air quality in Mumbai has been deteriorating for the past several days due to various reasons such as development works going on in Mumbai, dust on roads and smoke from vehicles. As a result, the issue of citizens' health has also arisen. In December, the BMC administration had issued various guidelines for construction and developers in Mumbai to bring air pollution under control. After that, it was also revealed that the air has improved to some extent. However, the quality of air has deteriorated in some places. The BMC has now decided to purchase dust suction machines to control the road dust that causes air pollution.

After studying various aspects related to air pollution, the Environment and Climate Change Department of the BMC is now going to purchase around 100 dust absorbing machines. An expenditure of 40 crores is expected for this. The BMC is trying to implement these machines in the limits of all department offices of the civic body in the next five to six months.
As the respective machines are battery powered, dust blown from roads and construction sites will be collected by this machine. The accumulated dust will then be disposed of in the Debris Reprocessing Project. Since the related machines are battery operated, their maintenance will not be very expensive. They have the capacity to last at least two to three days after charging once. For this, the tender process will be implemented, said the municipal officials.
