COVID-19 Vaccination: Mumbai colleges inoculated nearly 30,000 students in a week

According to reports, around 1.8 lakh students from the Mumbai region are eligible for the vaccine, of which 70 per cent of students in colleges are estimated to have received at least one dose.

In the first week of the special immunisation drive conducted in Mumbai colleges affiliated to Mumbai and SNDT Universities, nearly 29,813 students have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to reports, around 1.8 lakh students from the Mumbai region are eligible for the vaccine, of which 70 per cent of students in colleges are estimated to have received at least one dose.

The drive is likely to continue for two more days in this week and will start again post Diwali.

An official said that many first-year students are not eligible yet. While the second and third year students are giving their exams. More than 60 colleges in Mumbai city and suburbs have conducted drives in the first week for their students and also for those in their clusters.

At a special drive in Mithibai College on Friday and Saturday, October 29 and 30, 110 students took their shots.

The state health department along with the higher and technical education department had launched a special week-long campaign called Mission Yuva Swasth Abhiyan to promote immunization among students.

As the colleges reopened on October 20, the University of Mumbai (MU) released a standard operating procedure (SOP) for its affiliated colleges, days ahead of reopening of classes for degree-college students after being shut for a year and a half.
