On Thursday, May 19, Mumbai's daily toll of COVID-19 cases was at a three-month high, reports stated. In accordance with the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 223 cases were reported in the city. Based on accounts, Mumbai, in the past 24 hours, tested 8,579 samples.

From this, it had a test positivity rate (TPR) of 2.5 per cent. Looking at the data over the last few days suggests that the TPR in the city has been steadily rising. Of the total positive COVID-19 cases seen on Thursday, 216, or 97 per cent, were asymptomatic.

It was back in January when the third wave driven by the Omicron variant of coronavirus caused a surge in cases.

On the other hand, Maharashtra's daily numbers rose to 316 on Thursday. However, a positive note from the same is the fact that zero deaths were seen owing to the novel virus. Narratives suggest that in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra tested 28,449 samples and had a positivity rate of 1.11 per cent.

A day earlier, the state had registered more than 300 cases well at 307 cases. This phenomenon was seen following a 67-day gap. According to accounts, public officials are not worried about this surge in cases or the chance of a fourth wave.

Likewise, in the last 24 hours, India saw 2,259 new coronavirus cases. With this, the active caseload stands at 15,044.
