The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has started an inspection of all McDonald's and other fast food outlets in Ahmednagar after it was discovered that 'cheese analogues' were being used instead of paneer in burgers and nuggets at McDonald's in Ahmednagar. Accordingly, a notice has been sent by the Food and Drug Administration regarding inspection of 30 establishments in Mumbai and improvement.


Cheese analogues are used in disguise as substitutes for cheese. But it is considered dangerous for health. However, it was revealed in September 2023 that McDonald's, a famous fast food company, was using cheese analogues instead of cheese in its food in its branch in Nagar. The Food and Drug Administration took notice of this matter. Therefore, McDonald's removed cheese from its menu.

The Food and Drug Administration had started action against the establishments of McDonald's and other companies in the state from September 26 to October 3 to prevent cheating of consumers by giving them cheese analogues in the name of Paneer. In it, 30 establishments of McDonald's and other companies were inspected. It had inspected 13 establishments of McDonald's in Mumbai. In this investigation, 21 food samples were taken for examination. However, since food of substandard quality was found in these 13 establishments, they were ordered to make immediate improvements by the Food and Drug Administration.


Like McDonald's, a total of 17 establishments in Mumbai including 4 branches each of Domino's and KFC, 3 of Pizza Hut, 2 of Subway and Burger King, and one branch of Chaos Control Cafe were inspected. 10 food samples were taken there. However, Additional Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration Shailendra Adhav informed that 13 establishments of McDonald's and 16 establishments of other companies need to improve the quality of food, and notices have been sent to them from the Food and Drug Administration for immediate improvement.
