On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court granted time to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to take into consideration the suggestions of an expert committee appointed by Delhi High Court for making currency notes and coins friendly for the visually challenged, as per the report by Free Press Journal. It also includes using plastic as it may support tactile marking.

A public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the National Association of the Blind (NAB) was being heard by a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Arif Doctor claiming that visually impaired find the new currency notes and coins difficult to identify and distinguish them.

Senior advocate Uday Warunjikar who had appeared for NAB, said an affidavit needs to be filed by the RBI highlighting the suggestions being accepted by them. The bench said it was a delicate task. “It is a delicate task. We understand you are saying that the currency has to be visually user friendly. But they have a task before them,” said Justice Jamdar.
