Heavy rains in Mumbai on Wednesday caused a crack near the newly constructed Magathane Metro station. The incident took place just a day after part of the road near the station caved in.

There is construction going on near the station which may have contributed to the landslide, as per the media report by Free Press Journal. The Maha Mumbai Metropolitan Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) has closed the entry and exit points at the northern end of the station, which is next to the encroachment area.

“There is a lot of mud on the road and part of it has been barricaded. The government authorities should take up this issue seriously with the developer of this under-construction site,” said Kandivali resident lawyer Ravi Punjabi.

Residents claimed to have seen many dumper trucks filling the excavation site. Dramatic footage of the landslide emerged on social media today showing water gushing out of mud near a construction site right next to the station.

"BMC and MMMOCL are working together to ensure everyone's safety by implementing safety measures and resolving the issue as soon as possible. Your safety is our top priority! We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to commuters," the metro body tweeted on its Twitter handle.
