The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon issue the work order for the Mahalaxmi Temple precinct beautification project. The project was allocated INR 60 crore by former chief minister Eknath Shinde in March 2024.

As per reports, the proposal is with the Municipal Commissioner for administrative approval. Once approved, the work order will be released.

The beautification will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will cost INR 25 crore. It will improve facilities for visitors while maintaining the temple’s historic appeal. The funding has been provided by the state government.

Several major upgrades will be undertaken:

- A skywalk will be built from the temple to improve accessibility.

- A connecting bridge will be constructed from Akruti Parking to the temple.

- Pavements and approach roads will be enhanced.

- Stalls will be reorganised for better flow.

- Pedestrian movement will be managed efficiently.

- The temple’s surroundings will have laser lighting.

Since the Mahalaxmi Temple is a heritage site, approval was obtained from the Mumbai Heritage Committee before starting the work. Soil testing was also conducted. The design will preserve the temple’s traditional architecture while upgrading the area for devotees.

The project is in its final stage of administrative clearance. Once the Municipal Commissioner grants approval, work will begin.
