This year, every municipal corporation of all the cities did their best to perform better in terms of maintaining cleanliness and attain the title of the Cleanest City’ of India.

Mumbai made it to the title of the cleanest state capital in the Swachh Survekshan 2018, which was announced on Wednesday. Navi Mumbai won the award for being India’s best in solid waste management among cities with a population of over 10 lakh. Along with these cities, Indore, Bhopal, and Chandigarh have also been declared the cleanest cities.

In 2016, Mumbai ranked No. 10 but it dropped to No. 29 in 2017. This made the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) take steps to improve the city, and the efforts paid off!

This year, the government began Swachh Survekshan from January 4, 2018, and will continue until March 10, 2018, in which, for the first time, the Swachh Survekshan plan will cover all 4,041 Indian cities that have a population of 40 Crores.
