According to an analysis by a UK firm called Online Mortgage Advisor stated that Mumbai is the least happy city in the world to buy a home. The firm used Artificial Intelligence (AI) and scanned the faces of photos posted by Instagram users with hashtags #selfie and #newhomeowner, highlighted accounts. 

The study stated that they began their study by sorting out multiple geotagged photos across the globe. This was done to understand the happiness levels of the average Instagram user compared to those who have recently purchased a home. 

Later, they used AI facial recognition tool to find out the most dominant emotion reflected in each photo. Reportedly, they found that in the recent homebuyers, happiness was the dominant emotion expressed in a staggering 83% of photos.

They compared the percentage difference between the average happiness level in every city and the average global happiness level of homebuyer posts, following which they found the 'top 20 least happy cities in the world to buy a home', stated narratives. 

Besides Mumbai, Surat is in the fifth position on the list. Atlanta in the United States and Naples in Italy are the other cities included in the list. They used the Microsoft Azure facial recognition tool that analyzes the photos and automatically showcases scores on the levels of different emotions present. It detects emotions like - anger, contempt, fear, happiness, disgust, sadness, surprise, and neutrality. For the analysis, negative emotions were placed in one category. Meanwhile, cities like Jaipur, Chennai, Indore, Lucknow made it to the list of 'happiest cities in the world to buy a home.'
