On Sunday, slogans stating, “BMC hosh mai aao”, were chanted by nature enthusiasts and activists at Powai Lake’s Ganesh Ghat to urge the civic authority to cease the work on the cycle track to protect the biodiversity of the lake, reported the Times of India. The report, quoted, Tabrez Ali Sayed, a resident of Powai and an activist who elaborated on how they look to continue their peaceful agitation to make the civic authority comprehend the impairment they are generating to the environment by building the cycle track. He is of the opinion that the track will hinder the Indian marsh crocodiles that are in the waterbody.

The account then went to elucidate that, banners were held, donned with the words, “Save Powai Lake”, as well as, “BMC, you are on the wrong track”. In addition to this, those participating in the agitation also requested Maharashtra environment minister, Aaditya Thackeray to discard the project of the cycle track. Furthermore, another slogan that was demonstrated was “Aarey humne jeeta hai, Powai bhi hum jeetenge” which then ended with melodies since certain participants played the drums and sang songs related to mother nature, stated the narrative.

The report also quoted an activist, Amrita Bhattacharjee who stated that citizens wished to be apprised about the supposed emergency or the tearing urgency to construct the said road that goes through water in the waterbody. Adding that any technology that the civic authority is allegedly utilizing will result in the further reduction of the lake size causing flooding. Bhattacharjee also believes that the authority shouldn’t meddle with the lake if they are concerned about the environment.
