On Wednesday, February 17, in a fortunate situation, a man by the name Vipin Sooryavanshi dived into an open borewell after seeing an eight-year-old girl fall into it at a Lokhandwala complex and rescued her.

According to a report in mid-day, the entire rescue took place in a matter of 10 minutes. However, even though the borewell has now been covered, people residing in the Andheri society have lashed out at the committee members for not looking into the issue for years and ignoring the safety hazards.

Moreover, committee members blame one another and say that it is partially the society members’ fault as they never want to shell out money for repair or maintenance work unless and until “it is an emergency issue.”

On the other hand, earlier a 10-year-old boy, who went out to fly a kite on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, celebrated on January 14, never returned home. Durvesh Jadhav, a resident of Kandivali (West), fell into a large pit of dung and water, suffocated to death. Jadhav, a class V student, lived in a neighbouring building at Shankar Pada and had ventured into a cowshed. He lived with his parents in an SRA building in the Kandivali area of Mumbai.

As per sources, Jadhav reportedly found a gap in one of the sheets and slipped inside. However, he did not know that the cow dung and water inside was as deep as five feet due to which he slipped and fell inside further succumbing to his injuries.
