A 52-year-old man tragically died after falling from the 18th floor of a residential building in Wadala, central Mumbai, on Sunday while attempting to relieve himself near a lift shaft, according to police officials.

The incident took place at Matoshree Sadan, an 18-storey building, and was confirmed by an official from RAK Marg Police Station.

The deceased, who was reportedly suffering from dysentery, lived with his sister on the top floor of the building. According to police, the man was unable to access the bathroom in their flat as someone else was using it, and in a state of urgency, he rushed out.

"He attempted to defecate on the edge of a shaft near the lift, but unfortunately lost his balance and fell all the way down to the ground floor," the official stated.

Emergency services, including the fire brigade, were called in to retrieve the man from the shaft. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
