In a significant development, the work of linking the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 with the previous underground system at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus has finally begun, confirmed the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC). For this, barricades have been put at the subway near canon entrance point.

Explaining further, officials stated that the existing subway of CSMT is being linked with an underground pathway access with Aqua Line 3 CSMT for seamless connectivity, so that commuters do not have to come on to the surface to change the mode of transit.

At about eight sites, the Mumbai Metro Line 3 connects with the suburban rail system, other Mumbai Metro lines, and the already-used means of transportation. The Metro line would link to Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations in addition to Churchgate and CSMT railway stations.

Additionally, Metro 3 will connect with Metro lines 2B and 1 and be near the Mahalaxmi Monorail.

The Metro station at CSMT is getting a total of three similar access ways across the road. There will be one outside the BMC head office annex building and the other entry point near the Cama Hospital gate.

This ambitious line is also the first and only fully underground Metro corridor proposed for Mumbai. The 33.5-km-long Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor is an important project to improve the transportation scenario in the city with 26 underground stations.
