Mumbai Metro One and Autope Payment Solutions Ltd have installed 996 smart lockers across 12 Blue Line stations. This will improve last-mile logistics, streamline e-commerce deliveries, and make commuting easier.
The lockers are intended for metro users who often need short-term storage while visiting offices, markets, eateries, or other transportation hubs. As per reports, nearly 5 lakh daily commuters are expected to benefit from this rollout.
The smart lockers provide safe storage for personal belongings, food, packages, and online orders. Autope already operates 25,000 lockers in 250 Delhi Metro stations. They plan to bring the same expertise to Mumbai to connect urban logistics with public transport.
Users can access the lockers via a mobile app, SMS, or QR code scan. The lockers come in multiple sizes. Small lockers hold up to 5 kg, while larger units can hold up to 10 kg. Prices start at INR 20 per hour for small lockers and INR 30 per hour for medium ones.
The lockers have 24/7 CCTV monitoring and OTP-based verification to keep items safe. The lockers can be used for various purposes. They support brand marketing, temporary storage, and fast e-commerce or courier deliveries. It can also speed up online order pickups and deliveries.
Autope has been operating for over 1.5 years. The locker network serves multiple roles. It acts as a delivery point for e-commerce, a temporary storage solution for commuters, a hub to reduce urban emissions, and a centre for courier services for gig workers or small businesses.
