Locals in Mumbai can await cooler days ahead since the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, December 20 forecasted a further fall in minimum temperatures, reports stated. According to the IMD, in the next 24 hours, there may be a further dip in minimum temperatures. 

This dip in minimum temperature could be 18 degrees Celsius and a maximum under 30 degrees. On Monday the IMD's Colaba observatory registered a minimum temperature of 21.4 degrees. This is believed to be 0.7 degrees over the normal. 

On the other hand, Santacruz recorded 19.2 degrees which was 1.2 degrees over the normal. IMD's Colaba observatory registered a maximum temperature of 30.5 degrees and Santacruz saw 32 degrees.

So far, the lowest recorded minimum temperature for the month was 18.9 degrees which was registered on December 14. In the month of December, the lowest minimum temperature recorded was last year at 15 degrees. 

In other developments, a study done by Researchers Faculty of Natural Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi, Osmania University in Hyderabad, and Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh, revealed that Mumbai has experienced a rise in the average temperature by 2 degrees across 27 years (1991-2018). In the same period, the built-up area in Mumbai has risen by 66%.
