A day after Mumbaikars were caught by oblivious heavy rainfall on Tuesday, August 16, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall for today, August 17.

This brought a little respite from the heat owing to reduced rain intensity in Mumbai over the last few days when most parts of the city received light showers.

While Mumbaikars woke to a bright and sunny day, the weather department has predicted a “generally cloudy sky with moderate rain" in the city and suburbs, whereas heavy rainfall has been predicted at isolated places. However, some areas of MMR saw light showers in the early morning today.

Moreover, there will be a high tide of 4.39 metres in the Arabian Sea here at 2.57 pm.

As a result, the minimum temperature is likely to stay around 25 degrees Celsius as recorded by the IMD’s Mumbai Santacruz observatory. Whereas the maximum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius.

Though the temperatures may go up slightly as the city will be seeing lesser rainfall in the week. IMD says intensity of monsoon will reduce in next five days as the ‘depression’ has moved towards areas which are not favourable for monsoon over Mumbai.

Besides, around August 19 Mumbaikars can expect good rainfall due to some favourable conditions.

As per the data released by the weather department, the city recorded 7.91 mm rainfall in the 24 hour-period till 8 am while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 12.94 mm and 12.33 mm rainfall, respectively.

Elaborating further, officials stated that the residential areas of Parel and Dadar received 14 mm rainfall a day ago. The Malabar Hill and Nair Hospital areas received 19 mm rain.

In the eastern suburbs, 12 mm rainfall was recorded at the Vikhroli fire station and 11 mm at Chembur fire station during the same period, while the Malvani fire station and Chincholi fire station in the western suburbs recorded 22 mm and 20 mm rain.
