The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon is set to revive by June 13 after a prolonged dry spell in Mumbai.
As of 9 am on Tuesday, June 10, the Regional Meteorological Department (RMC)'s Santacruz and Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and 26.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on June 9, was recorded at 33.5 degrees Celsius and 32.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
IMD scientist Sushma Nair told HT that monsoon is not a continuous phenomenon. It includes active and dormant phases. The current lull is one such dormant phase.
Although there have been scattered showers since the onset, the overall monsoon activity has remained subdued across most of the region. This is expected to change starting June 13, as a fresh spell of rain is forecasted to hit several districts in Maharashtra.
Since June 1, rainfall accumulation has remained modest. The Santacruz observatory has recorded 87.5 mm, while Colaba has logged 82.4 mm, both below seasonal averages.
