In a recently taken decision, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) extended the deadline for Abhay Yojana, under which the consumers receive a two per cent waiver on water bills if they are paid after the due date. As per the recent update, the deadline has been extended from August 12 to December 31, 2020, and was considered keeping the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in mind.

Talking about the same, one of the officials from the concerned departments said the consumers can take the benefit for the same, until December 30, in certain cases where payment is made beyond the assigned date. Experts also state that the  move was considered as it would also attract some more people, under the Abhay Yojana.

The announcement was also made by Maharashtra DGIPR on their official Twitter account, on August 12, 2020.

As per reports, MLA Sunil Prabhu took the initiative to follow up with the BMC and extend this decision. Records also state that payment from over two lakh consumers is still pending and the state government agencies are focusing on collecting these payments asap.
