According to the latest reports, for three hours on Sunday, March 27, Mumbai's 13 stretches will remain non-operational to traffic. Instead, it will be utilized exclusively by citizens to partake in activities that make them happy. In light of this, the stretches can be used for walks, cycling, skating, yoga or as a sports zone.

Based on accounts, the drive will be initiated by the Mumbai traffic police and will be organised every Sunday henceforth, officials stated. The city had previously experimented with the same concept in the pre-coronavirus era.

On Friday night, March 25, Mumbai Police commissioner, Sanjay Pandey took to Twitter and elaborated on the revised six locations - Marine Drive, Bandra, Goregaon, D N Nagar, Mulund, Vikhroli - for the Sunday Streets, which will commence from Sunday, March 27, between 6 am to 10 am.

Parts of the streets that will be used for purpose are Dorabhai Tata Road Nariman Point in Marine Drive, Carter Road in Bandra, Mind Space Back Road in Goregaon, Lokhandwala Marg in D.N Nagar, Tansa Pipeline in Mulund and Eastern Express Highway and Vikhroli Bridge in Vikhroli.

Rajvardhan Sinha, joint commissioner, traffic was quoted in the narrative elaborating on how they have identified 13 patches that comprise ones at Marine DriveBandra Bandstand, Borivali, Oshiwara, Mulund, amongst others. However, diversions will be made for vehicles during the period.

Similarly, Twinkle Mehta, a citizen who had earlier participated in the drive while talking to Mumbai Live said, "It is a great initiative by the traffic police to bring people together and provide today's generation with an essence of playing in open spaces that they are likely to have not experienced. I believe this will help rejuvenate and boost the children's creativity. Moreover, this will also help Mumbaikars to connect with the sports that will help build their physical and mental health, especially after two crucial years into the COVID-19 pandemic."

Considering that Mumbaikars have been restricted to the four walls of their homes for the past two years, it is likely that this initiative will capture the attention of many.
