Three weeks into becoming the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjay Pandey has brought into force a series of initiatives to ensure the ease of living for the citizens. On Monday, March 21, the police chief took to Twitter to share eight drives enforced by him.

Pandey had earlier called a meeting of the hawkers union wherein it was brought to his notice that the committee to itemize the hawkers hasn’t been formed yet. Owing to this, the police force is not in a position to differentiate between illegal and legal hawkers. However, they are working on getting areas close to the railway stations cleared of hawkers.
Similarly, he also met with the bikers association wherein biking corridors were discussed which are believed to help people bike to work, if made. Herein on Sundays, morning times will be reserved on some parts of the roads. The proposed timings are from 6 am to 9 am or 7 am to 10 am with the scheme slated to be initiated from March 27.
Meetings were also conducted with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) about dumping yards and scraping of khataras wherein 2,585 have been removed.
Moreover, on the issue of wrong side driving, 1,215 cases have been registered said, Pandey. The authority is considering not having dumping yards in the building vicinity for which the Mumbai Police is closely working with the MMRDA and BMC to identify spots.
Apart from this, Pandey has warned of action if the situation of boulders and debris by developers of infrastructures doesn’t improve. Furthermore, the authority is also looking to streamline auto and taxis outside the railway stations.
On the other hand, Mumbai Police has suggested that timings for constructions be from 7 am to 7 pm and no work on Sunday. Recommendations have been made to refrain from playing loud music during matches.
Pandey has also vowed to take it up with the authorities about relaxations in the timings of bars and restaurants. The police chief has reportedly received complaints about executive committee members of housing societies which will be looked into.
In other developments, Pandey also believes that while feeding stray animals is a great deed, the interests of senior citizens should be considered. He then informed Mumbaikars that ASIs have been promoted to PSI and head constables are being trained to look into simple investigations which will help ease the workload.
He ended his notification by thanking the citizens for showcasing discipline.
