On Thursday, March 17, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Sanjay Pandey took to Twitter to state that some locals have demanded cycling corridors. This according to the locals will enable them to cycle to work. Pandey believes this idea holds a benefit since it will ensure fewer cars on the road.

On the flip side, however, he is of the opinion that it could lead to the shortening of the current roads. The police chief added that they plan to offer the said facility from Worli to Nariman Point and Dadar, Santacruz, Vile Parle to BKC to start with. Amid this proposal, he has asked the locals their thoughts on the same.

His tweet read, "Some have asked to provide #cycling corridor so citizens could cycle to work. Pros-less cars on roads, cons-shortening of available roads. Plan Worli to Nariman Point and Dadar/Santacruz/Vileparle  to bkc initially. Let’s know what you think #mumbai".

The topic of cycling in Mumbai has caught the attention of many authorities. Recently, the the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) was mulling offering commuters rent bicycles from outside the metro stations of the upcoming two metro corridors between Dahisar and Andheri. This is believed to be similar to the renting cycle operation underway on the Versova-Ghatkopar Metro 1 line.
