Recently, the city has witnessed a growing number of crimes against women. In the aftermath of the Saki Naka rape case, Mumbai Police is set to open counselling centres for women.

Reportedly, they will set up five counselling centres for women who have survived rape, assault, domestic violence, etc. This initiative will be called 'Saksham,' and Mumbai Police has collaborated with a non-profit organisation (NGO).

The women will undergo counselling sessions as it will help the survivors to deal with the trauma caused by the incident. The accused will also undergo the session after they are out of jail. This will be done to make sure that they do not commit a similar crime again.

Police commissioner Hemant Nagrale will inaugurate the programme at the Vikhroli police station, state reports.

Confirming about the counselling centres, an officer, while addressing the media, said that there would be dedicated room allotted for the same. They will be selecting a police station in each region, wherein these counselling sessions would take place.

The sessions would take place from Monday to Friday, authorities have stated. The centres will also give support to the children who underwent any type of assault.

A police officer commenting on the same stated that children were included in this initiative since these serious crimes leave an adverse impact on them. It can lead to children choosing the wrong paths in the future.
