Mumbai Port Trust signs MoUs worth INR 7,510 crores

In an initiative to boost tourism, the Mumbai Port Trust has signed different MoUs in order to better the water transport and tourism in Mumbai.

In a substantial development, the Mumbai Port Trust has signed 13 different Memorandums of Understanding worth INR 7,510 crores in order to boost water transport and tourism in Mumbai.

This comes ahead of the Maritime India Summit 2021. Moreover, on Wednesday, February 24, in a press conference, the Chairperson of Mumbai Port Trust, Rajiv Jalota, stated that more MoUs worth INR 12,000 crores is on the cards.

According to reports, the agreements include starting water taxis from the domestic cruise terminal (DCT) in south Mumbai for INR 75 crores, introducing harbour cruise tourism for INR 15 crores, developing a Marina for INR 370 crores, and shipbuilding and allied activities for INR 1,300 crores among other agreements.

On the other hand, earlier on December 22, the Maharashtra government signed a memorandum of understanding worth INR 61,000 crores with 25 Indian companies in more than 15 sectors under its ‘Magnetic Maharashtra’ initiative.

The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Industries Minister Subhash Desai. Moreover, these MoUs are touted to create 2.53 lakh jobs across the state. The proposed investments are from IT, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, food processing, steel, automobiles, engineering and oil and gas sectors among others. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, further assuring support to the investors stated, “It is important that entrepreneurs invest in Maharashtra even in times of crisis. The investment of INR 1,12,000 crores in just six months during the COVID-19 crisis is certainly a great example of Maharashtra for the entire country.”
