Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai and Pune, IMD issues red alert for Oct 15

On Thursday morning, the rain continued to lash various parts of Mumbai. It started raining in some parts of the city from Wednesday evening and in some places have experienced non-stop rainfall in the last 24 hours.

There is a red alert issued for the entire North Konkan area.

There have been reports of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm from many parts of Mumbai including Dadar, Parel, Lalbaug, Matunga, Andheri, Sion, Kurla, Malad and Borivali. Not just Mumbai, but many parts of the state have been lashed by heavy rainfall. So far, Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts have the highest rainfall.

According to IMD, "There is an extremely low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal and the clouds developed because of it would be hovering on Maharashtra from October 14 to 16." It further notes that there is a possibility of occasional gusty winds reaching 30-40kmph on October 15.

Earlier IMD had issued an orange alert issued for districts including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune, Raigad, Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri, Satara for October 15. The same has now been upgraded to red. 

According to IMD, till 5:30 am on October 15, Santacruz- 82.5mm rainfall while Colaba had recorded 107.0m. Here is rainfall recorded in other places till 5:30 am Ram Mandir 48.5mm, Mira Road 42.0mm, Dahisar44.0 mm and Bhayander 43.5mm 

Due to the non-stop rainfall, there are reports of waterlogging from various parts of the city

Fishermen have been advised not to venture out in the city. It is also expected that the rain may impact the schedule of suburban local trains and cause traffic jams at various locations. 

There are also reports of disruption of services of mobile networks.
