Mumbai Rains are always unpredictable and this is a well-known fact. The same was proved again by the weather, on Tuesday, as the city recorded the highest rainfall in the month of August, since 1997. As per reports, 298 mm of rainfall has been recorded, reports the India Meteorological Department.

The Santacruz weather confirmed that this was second to 346.2 mm of rainfall which was witnessed on 23 August 1997, as per the data. The figures obtained from the Santacruz weather station correspond to the entire city, and the unit has been submitting data about the rainfall since since 1974.

As per the official statement,  Ajay Kumar, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, said "Today's rainfall was extremely heavy. Rains are likely to be heavy tomorrow as well and may abate by late afternoon. We are closely watching the rainfall and its pattern. People are surprised as heavy rainfall in Mumbai is generally witnessed during June and July."

Further, reports from the IMD also indicate more rainfall, and the city might succumb to the so-called ‘depression’ zone.
