It has been raining heavily the entire week and Mumbaikars faced a number of issues as the city came to a standstill particularly on Wednesday, September 5. Over 1.7 lakh consumers were left with power cuts across the city and people living in areas like Nalasopara, Vasai and Virar faced a lot of trouble.

BEST officials claimed that power cuts were undertaken as a preventive measure. 

Areas where power supply was affected include Wadala, Sion Koliwada, GTB Nagar, Dadar Hindu Colony, Dadar Railway station, Gandhi market, Matunga police station. 

In September, Mumbai usually receives 327.1 mm of rainfall but within the four days of September this year, the Santacruz observatory recorded a whopping 488.7 mm of rainfall.
