Roads in Mumbai have been in poor condition due to heavy rains since early August. Potholes have formed across the city, on highways and small roads, as the city experiences continuous rainfall, due to which rain water gets stored in the potholes. These pose a lot of risk to the commuters as the pits are more likely to cause accidents.

Over the last few years, several two-wheelers and riders have been injured or died by falling due potholes. However, with an aim to avoid such hazards, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier given special targets to the respective departments.

However, officials were not able to complete work due to the coronavirus outbreak, as the city was under a complete lockdown. Meanwhile, the opposition leaders and the citizens had several complaints with regards to these, as Mumbaikars have been dealing with this problem, for several years now. Complaints were raised by many which stated that the municipal corporation has been neglecting the pothole repair, time and again.

As per reports, a large number of potholes have formed in the middle and on the sides of the frequently used Tilak bridge in Mumbai's G-North ward. This bridge is always crowded and is flooded with vehicles, as it connects areas in Dadar East and West.

Besides this, many others bridges in Mumbai have been closed for repair work, and so commuters have to choose alternate options and wait in long queues and traffic jams, especially on the Elphinstone and Tilak bridges. However, potholes, add to the time, and also pose a risk on a daily basis.

Mushtaq Ansari from Pothole Warriors took to Twitter to share the news about the Potholes and asked the officials to fix them asap.

Last year, the municipality had implemented a unique initiative whereby they asked the citizens to register a complaint regarding the potholes and get five hundred rupees in return. While the traffic is relatively less this year, officials have received several complaints regarding potholes and citizens, just like every year, are waiting for actions to be taken with regards to this problem.
