Mumbai: Resturant Body requests for relaxation in working hours
SHARES

As the number of cases in Mumbai has started to come down, the restaurant body has requested the government to allow some relaxation in regards to the operating time for restaurants. As per the current guidelines restaurants in Mumbai can take dine-in orders only till 4 pm.

Requesting for a change in this, the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) President has urged Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray to consider relaxing restaurant operation hours. Taking to his social media, restaurateur and NRAI president, Anurag Katriar requested a positive roadmap for reopening of the beleaguered food and beverage sector of the state and termed present restrictions in Mumbai and across the state of Maharashtra as among the strictest across the country. "It is absolutely imperative for our survival that these restrictions are relaxed. 50 per cent capacity utilisation is fine but restricted hours don't make much sense," Katriar had posted.

He is not the only restaurateur that has voiced displeasure on the operating times. Many others joined him and commented on the post and urged the CM to review this situation.

On Monday, July 26, Mumbai reported the lowest single-day addition after April 2020 with less than 300 fresh coronavirus cases. As per the data released by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) only 299 fresh cases were posted on the day. Additionally,8 people had lost their battle against this deadly virus on Monday. The positivity rate for Mumbai too has now dipped to 0.05.

In the wake of reducing positivity rates, people have been seeking more relaxation in the current rules.

Earlier in the week, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had hinted that the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government is mulling to offer some relaxations to the people in the state. While speaking to reporters, Pawar had mentioned that the government is looking to extend the deadline for restaurants to 7 pm. The current deadline for shops and restaurants is 4 pm. Similar relaxation is also on the cards for the shops in the state.

Further, there is also a possibility to start local trains for the fully vaccinated people.
