Mumbai registered its second-wettest September in four years with 741mm of rainfall and the wettest in two years reported the Times of India. It was in September 2017 that the aggregate month rainfall activity registered was 603.2mm, in September 2019, the figure was 1,115.7mm.

Additionally, this September, the rainfall registered was over double its usual average rainfall figure which is at 327.1mm. This when contrasted to August, however, was under the usual average monthly rainfall. On the other hand, rainfall in the months of July and June were regarded as normal.

Similarly, for the third consecutive time, Mumbai recorded more than 3,000mm of rainfall, 3,163.5mm of which was until September 30. The season’s surplus for 2021 is at 43%. This season, the locals saw three instances of incessant rains on June 9 and 10, July 16 and 17, and July 18 and 19 at 231.3mm, 253.3mm and 235mm respectively. According to the India Meteorological Department, rainfall of over 204.5mm in 24 hours is considered extremely heavy rains.

The report added that based on details provided by officials, there still is time left for monsoons to leave the island city, with the usual date being October 8. Thus, moderate showers can be anticipated in the coming days.

With this, the report adds that the seven water supplying lakes have considerable water stocks
