Aaditya Thackeray had written a letter, dated September 14, to 26 states in one union territory - Delhi. It seeks "coordination on a common action plan for climate change mitigation and adaption."

Hindustan Times had obtained a copy this week, and as per their reports, it does not precisely state how coordination can be done with regards to the matter. However, he has mentioned that a digital meet can be conducted to ideate and share their work.

This move is considered to be the first step by Thackeray in the state's plan to hold a convention of India’s environment ministers.  The convention will be hosted after the upcoming 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in November.

In Glasgow, Maharashtra's cabinet Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Aaditya Thakeray, will present a draft version of the Mumbai Climate Action Plan (MCAP).

While talking to Hindustan Times, Thackeray said that the key to climate action is regional leadership. He further added that as sub-national governments, "we ought to come together and exchange our learnings to ensure that we are aligned nationally for an ambitious pathway for reducing our emissions."

Last week, Thackeray announced that 43 cities and urban clusters from the state would join the global race zero campaign. This development has come after the state is trying to work towards the climate crisis.
