Mumbai Weather Update: Coldest November Day Recorded In Over 10 Years After Unseasonal Rainfall; AQI At 46

According to the weather department, till Saturday night, Colaba received 5.4 mm of rain and Santacruz 1.5 mm. The rain increased from Sunday morning to evening. Between 8:30 and 5:30, Colaba received 26 mm of rain and Santacruz 24 mm of rain.

Mumbaikars woke up to a chilly morning on Sunday, November 2. The temperature dropped due to continuous rain.

The temperature in Mumbai dropped to 27°C and in the suburbs to 29°C. It was Mumbai's coldest November day in the last 10 years.

According to the weather department, it was the coldest November day in at least 11 years. Last year, the maximum temperature in Santacruz was 32.6°C and in Colaba 30.8°C. Until 2014, it was almost impossible for daytime temperatures to dip below 30°C in November. Even in recent years, the minimum recorded was 29.2°C.

The rains have added to the chill. But the air quality has also improved significantly. The AQI was 212 (Poor) after Diwali, which came down to 56 on Sunday. According to CPCB data, most areas recorded AQI below 100. Colaba was the cleanest area — AQI 34, followed by Byculla 38.

Meanwhile, Mumbai began its Monday, November 3, under overcast skies and light showers, following a spell of moderate rain last evening.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the city would continue to witness partly cloudy conditions throughout the day, with a chance of light to moderate rainfall or isolated thunderstorms.

Due to this continuous rain, the temperature remained well below average. The maximum temperature in Santacruz, which is around 35°C in November, was only 29°C, which is 5.7°C below average. While the temperature in Colaba was 27°C — 7.3°C below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.1 and 24.2 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and Colaba observatory respectively.
