Mumbai's Temperature Dips Below 20 Degrees For First Time This Season

Mumbai is witnessing slightly cold mornings from the past few days with breezes throughout the day. However, for the first time this year, the minimum temperature in Mumbai dipped below 20 degrees.

On Wednesday, November 29, the Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 19.7 degrees, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory registered a minimum temperature of 21, clocking in a departure of two degrees below normal.

The IMD in its forecast for December 1-4 for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad has said that dry weather conditions are likely to prevail. According to experts the minimum temperatures will increase by 1-2 degrees again by the weekend.

The maximum temperatures have also dropped with the Regional Meteorological Centre in Colaba recording 30.2 degrees, marking a departure of three degrees below normal on Thursday, November 30, whereas the Santacruz station recorded 31.5 degrees Celsius, a departure of two degrees below normal.

The weather bureau data showed that the maximum temperatures in both the recording stations, which had been consistently around 35 degrees, dipped to 31 degree Celsius. This is three degrees below normal temperature.

As per IMD scientists, winter sets in the megapolis typically after December 15, with the minimum temperature dipping below 20 degrees Celsius.

As per the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the AQI in Mumbai is currently in the 'satisfactory' category, with a reading of 92.

Mumbai continued to breathe easy as the overall AQI touched 103 on Thursday, November 30, while 13 of the city’s 26 recording stations recorded an AQI in double digits. The worst air quality was recorded in Kandivali West where the AQI stood at 143.
