Mumbai, Thane, Palghar Records Over 100mm rainfall in 24 hours

The IMD categorizes rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm as heavy rains, and the downpour that Mumbai experienced over the past 24-hours qualifies for this category.

As per the data furnished by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai recorded overall rainfall few digits short of 100-mm as the 24-hour-cycle ended on Thursday morning, July 20.

On the other hand, several talukas of Palghar, Raigad and Thane recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending 6 pm on Wednesday, July 19. Moreover, several areas of Thane and Navi Mumbai have exceeded 150 mm rainfall.

Till 8.30 am on Thursday, the Santacruz observatory recorded 99 mm of rains, while the coastal observatory at Colaba recorded 85 mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) automatic weather stations recorded 110.45 mm of rains in western suburbs, followed by 96.7 mm in Eastern Suburbs and 95.39 mm in the island city, over the past 24 hours.

The weather bureau’s data also shows that Dahisar recorded 150 mm of rains in past 24 hours, while Kandivali recorded 138 mm, followed by 121 mm in Wadala and 95 mm in Worli.

As per IMD, Dapoli received the maximum showers at 247 mm, Uran received 174 mm of rains followed by Palghar which recorded 160 mm.

Meanwhile, Badlapur, Ambarnath and Vasai also experienced intense showers with 252mm, 180 mm and 165 mm rainfall respectively.

In Raigad district, which faced the heaviest brunt of the showers, IMD bulletin showed that between 8 am and 5 pm on Wednesday, July 19, Matheran received 180 mm of rainfall whereas Mhsala received 133 mm of rain followed by Poladpur wherein 141.8 mm of showers were recorded.

Furthermore, rainfall analysis data procured from the Department of Agriculture showed that until 10.20 am on Wednesday, Raigad district cumulatively received 163 mm of rain, whereas Thane and Palghar districts recorded 80 mm and 63 mm respectively.
