On Monday, December 6, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister, Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter to highlight that work for the improvement of footpaths and enhancement of walkability of citizens, in Mumbai’s Chembur, was commenced.

According to him, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will re-engineer footpaths and bus shelters along the congested stretches of Chembur, Dadar East, Goregaon and Bandra. He stated this will occur “with standardised street furniture such as litter bins, benches, planters, universal accessibility, better refuge islands to make the city more pedestrian-friendly”.

Apart from this, similar footpath enhancement work was commenced in the F/North ward. He added that the pilot activity is being conducted in four wards. Once the same has been ironed out, the civic authority will put it in action across the island city.

On the other hand, the BMC is believed to have set to spend INR 7.29 crore on the consultancy work to alter the technology for the building of pile foundations for the pillar of bridges and interchanges for the coast road project in Mumbai. The proposal will be placed before the standing committee meeting for final approval.

Similarly, the civic authority is looking to appoint a private agency to upkeep heritage structures in Mumbai. The heritage tag is given to the structure based on its age, cultural and historical relevance, and its location.
