Owing to the floods that hit Maharashtra, many homes were destroyed in the process. This has naturally had an adverse impact on the lives of the residents. Society has thus come together to aid those affected. Assistance in the form of food, clothing and money is being offered.

Similarly, Mumbai University has now extended a helping hand to these flood victims. Due to the heavy rains and floods in Mahad and Chiplun, many people have been affected. In line with their social commitment, the University of Mumbai has embarked upon a commendable step. In collaboration with the management of Hirwal College at Mahad, they have commenced a community kitchen to distribute food to the needy.

Under this umbrella, two meals will be provided to 300 needy people every day. The National Service Planning Cell and the Department of Student Development at the University of Mumbai have taken the said initiative. Considering that an emergency prevailed in many places, including Mahad and Chiplun, an inspection tour was recently conducted by the university. In which they visited and inspected the colleges in Mahad, Maharashtra.

During this, it was brought to light that workshops, offices, laboratories, documents of the college were damaged due to the natural calamity. Thus, necessary materials were distributed on behalf of the university. Additionally, foodgrains were given to 200 families in the Temghar village. University of Mumbai and DBJ College Chiplun have started a second community college from the 28th. These initiatives undertaken by the university are in line with its social commitment.

Last year, the university had extended a helping hand to the needy in collaboration with the government to overcome the coronavirus crisis.
