According to sources, the seven proposed wastewater treatment works under the sewage treatment plant are Worli, Bandra, Dharavi, Versova, Malad, Bhandup and Ghatkopar respectively.

In this, 50 per cent of their capacity will be treated at the third level. This treated wastewater will be used for purposes other than drinking. Moreover, INR 1,346.44 crores will be provided for all wastewater treatment plants.

In recent developments, a tender has been invited for the construction of the sewage tunnel from Kurla to Dharavi under Mithi river. The cost of the project is INR 544.76 crores. Meanwhile, there is a provision of INR 60 crores for the sewage tunnel from Borivali to Malad and the sewage tunnel from Goregaon Udhanchan Kendra to Malad.

On the other hand, the work of the wastewater treatment plant at Byculla will be completed in May 2021. A provision of INR 441.50 crores has been allocated for the same.

The allocations have been mentioned down below:

  • New Versova Intercropping Center: INR 293 crores
  • Versova sewage tunnel: INR 150.95 crores
  • S. V. Road sewage tunnel: INR 335 crores
  • Mithi river sewage treatment plant: INR 146 crores
  • Malad Intercropping Center: INR 670 crores

Moreover, machinery is touted to be procured to reduce human contact while cleaning the sewers. Under this, a provision of INR 168.76 crores has been made under the Sewage Operations Department with regards to the Mumbai Sewerage Improvement Program. Moreover, it has planned to lay 93.68 km of sewers on the roads and increase its size in order to provide convenience to the passengers. Accordingly, a provision of INR 275.39 crores has been allocated.
