Mumbai on Monday, May 13, saw a sudden shift in the unfavourable weather conditions like rainfall and dust storms. This has led to a delay in the launch of the bowing arch, the second girder for connecting the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) with Mumbai Coastal road.

Weather is an important factor for the launch as it takes place over the ocean. Because of the rain, authorities are now considering rescheduling the launch to Wednesday morning, May 15, as per reports.

The girder is a 143-metre-long "bowstring arch" weighing 2,400 metric tonnes. It was transported to the Worli location on Sunday night, May 12. The launch was planned for Tuesday morning, May 14, when the weather was expected to be ideal. But the city experienced thunderstorms with lightning and periods of moderate to heavy rain from Monday evening, May 13, leading to the postponement.

The first girder of the BWSL connects the southbound lanes of the Mumbai Coastal Road (MCR) to the link. The second girder, which is now awaiting its launch, will connect the northbound lanes.

This isn't the first time that the weather has caused a delay in the project. The launch of the first 136-metre "bowstring arch" girder was also delayed by a week due to weather. It then happened on April 26 without any issues.
