Mumbai woke up to its coldest in month of May on Thursday morning, May 8, with the minimum temperatures being being recorded at 22.2 degrees Celsius, which is nearly six degrees below the normal, as per by the Colaba coastal observatory.

Additionally, the Santacruz observatory witnessed coldest May day in over a decade, with the temperature being dipped to 20.6 degrees Celsius2, which is 4.4 degrees below the normal. The coldest morning of May ever recorded at the station was on May 12, 1985, at 20.2 degrees Celsius.

This significant development occurred after intermittent spells of heavy rain and gusty winds in the region on Wednesday, May 7.

The station previously recorded 22.8 degrees Celsius in 1951.

It is pertinent to that this wave of cool temperatures continued for the second consecutive day with minimum temperature being recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, May 9, at Colaba observatory. Meanwhile, the Santacruz observatory reported 23.5 degrees Celsius.

Moreover, a maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, and 31.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday, May 8.

This marks a departure of a whopping eight degrees in only two days, giving a sigh of relief among Mumbaikars.

Besides, with the Santacruz station recording at least 34 mm rain between Tuesday and Thursday, the downpour made it the city’s wettest May since 2021.
