The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to build an elevated nature’s walkway in the Malabar Hill area, reports stated. The civic authority has reportedly finalised a contractor who will be executing the project.

According to accounts, the proposal to build the almost one-kilometre-long walkway will be put before the Standing Committee for approval. The elevated walkway comes with a tree canopy and will pass over Malabar Hill’s forest patch.

Additionally, it will come at the slope of the Kamala Nehru Park that overlooks the Arabian Sea. Based on the proposal, the scheme has been ideated by IMK Architects and Structwel Designers And Consultant Private Limited.

The project is anticipated to cost INR 22.49 crore and will be finished in eight months. Post this, for five years, the firms will also undertake the maintenance work. Narratives cite that HMV Associates has been finalised as the contractors.

They are supposed to have experience in building elevated nature trails in Malaysia but have quoted an amount nearly 40 per cent over the estimates made by the civic body for the scheme which was at INR 12.66 crore.

However, officials have justified this high cost to the challenging terrain. Moreover, the civic body’s tender for the project execution, only received one bid, claim reports.
