The newly built Targhar railway station is ready for a final inspection. This inspection will be done by the Central Railway (CR) and CIDCO. Officials said the station is important for the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
The airport is expected to begin operations in two months.
The station covers an area of 2 lakh square feet. It is planned as a modern transit hub. It will connect the Harbour Line, the future Coastal Metro, and the planned airport skytrain. These links will help both daily passengers and air travellers.
A senior CIDCO officer said the structure is complete. All passenger facilities, platforms, and subways are installed. The opening of the station depends on the outcome of the final inspection.
The station has a concourse space of over 50,000 square feet. It is covered with parametric polycarbonate sheet roofing. This gives the station a modern and open look.
There are five platforms in total. These include three island platforms and two end platforms. The end platforms are 270 metres long. Two subways, each 7.5 metres wide, connect the platforms to the station area and surrounding places.
The station has waiting areas near the ticket counters. These spaces include restaurants. Toilets are built under the Sulabh Sauchalay model. There are also special facilities for persons with disabilities.
There is a large pay-and-park area for vehicles. It can hold up to 720 four-wheelers. There is also a drop-off area for buses, cars, and autorickshaws. Special lanes are provided for easy pick-up and drop-off.
The station links to other upcoming transport systems, makes it a key part of the airport network.
