The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recorded its highest-ever annual property tax collection of INR 876 crore in the recently concluded financial year. This performance surpasses all previous annual collections since the inception of the civic body, and the credit for this goes to a structured recovery drive, a digital payment system, and an amnesty scheme implemented during the final weeks of the financial year.
More than 2.25 lakh property owners contributed to the collection, of whom approximately 61% opted for the online payment option. Nerul Ward made the highest contribution, exceeding INR 182 crore. This initiative demonstrates enhanced taxpayer participation, data-driven enforcement, and increased accessibility through digital communication and improved payment facilities.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has recorded its highest-ever annual property tax collection, garnering INR 876 crore during the recently concluded financial year.
The collections recorded during the period from April 2025 to March 2026 represent the highest annual recovery achieved since the inception of the civic body. Officials attributed this performance to coordinated efforts, such as structured recovery campaigns, taxpayer engagement, and the introduction of time-bound amnesty schemes during the final weeks of the financial cycle.
The administration implemented an amnesty scheme between the beginning and the end of March, offering property owners a 50% waiver on penalty charges upon the lump-sum payment of outstanding dues. This scheme covered residential, non-residential, and industrial properties, as well as vacant land, and helped boost collections during the final weeks of the year.
A significant portion of the total recoveries was recorded during March, when over 28,800 property owners made payments amounting to approximately INR 192.81 crore. To facilitate this, tax collection centers remained operational even on weekends and public holidays, enabling taxpayers to complete their payments within the deadline.
Data reveals that a total of 225,576 property owners paid their taxes during the year, indicating an increase in participation. Of these, approximately 61% opted for online payment modes, while 39% utilised offline channels. The civic body had enhanced its digital payment infrastructure, enabling transactions through various online platforms to improve accessibility.
NMMC also utilised data analytics to identify defaulters and streamline its recovery strategy. Targeted communication campaigns were conducted via SMS, WhatsApp, and RCS messaging, supplemented by direct outreach and field-level follow-ups. Furthermore, an AI-based calling system was employed to contact defaulters and encourage timely payments.
Within the administrative zone, Nerul Ward recorded the highest collection at INR 182.09 crore, followed by Koparkhairane with INR 163.40 crore and Ghansoli with INR 150.11 crore. Other wards, including Turbhe, also made significant contributions to the total collection.
