Navi Mumbai: Civic Body Starts Special Treatment Room For Heatstroke Patients

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has issued precautions to be taken to avoid heatstroke after the death of 14 persons at an event in Kharghar.

In addition, the civic body has made a special treatment room available for heat stroke patients at Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital, Nerul.

The NMMC chief Rajesh Narvekar urged citizens to take precautions in order to avoid serious health effects due to the severe heat witnessed in the city over the past few days.

He advised residents to remain indoors during noon, when the heat is at its peak, and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms of heat stroke, such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, headache, frequent sweating, fatigue, and occasional seizures.

He also recommended drinking water regularly, wearing light, thin, and cotton clothes, using goggles, an umbrella, or a hat, and carrying a water bottle while traveling.

The civic health department has suggested that persons working in the sun should use a hat or an umbrella on their head and cover their head, neck, and face with wet clothes.

For those unversed, on Sunday, April 16, a crowd of lakhs sat under a scorching sun for over nearly three hours (11:30 am to 1 pm) at the Kharghar International Corporate Park grounds while the award was being conferred on social activist Dattatreya Narayan alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Kapil Patil were on the dais, which was covered, along with other VIPs.
