In the landslide accident that occurred at Irshalwadi near Morbe dam project of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation in Khalapur taluka of Raigad district, the relief work teams of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation fire brigade were dispatched to the scene at around 1:00 am. As this area is very remote, no vehicle can go there. 

During that time, the personnel of the teams had to walk on foot along with the relief materials. In this, while walking towards the incident site for relief work, the Assistant Central Officer of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Fire Brigade Shivram Yashwant Dhumane passed away due to a heart attack. His sudden death at the age of just 48 has been deeply mourned by all walks of life.

A major accident has taken place at the foot of Irshalgad in Khalapur in the district. There is a tribal wadi in the upper part of Morbe Dam in the hilly area 6 km from Chowk village. The crack has collapsed on the residential houses. There are houses of the tribal Thakur community. It is feared that more than 100 people are trapped in this. A rescue operation was started after the accident which took place in the middle of the night. At around 2:30 am, Navi Mumbai fire brigade reached the spot.

The rescue operation was halted for some time as darkness and rain also hampered the rescue operation. But during this rescue operation, Navi Mumbai fire brigade officer Shivram Dhumane lost his life. Now this rescue operation has been started once again and a total of 27 people have been successfully evacuated. This includes two to three small children. Shivdurg, Nisarga Mitra, Vedha Sahyadri teams are active in relief work with the help of police administration. Rescue operation is going on on war footing and other trapped people are being evacuated.

On July 8, 1996, Shivaram Yashwant Dhumane, who joined CIDCO fire brigade as a fireman, made his mark as a fireman who was always ready to help. In April 1999, after the transfer of fire services from CIDCO to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Shivram Dhumane joined the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation fire brigade. Presently he was working at Fire Station CBD Belapur. His sudden death is being mourned by all. He was cremated at his native village Varchi Khopoli.
