Industries Minister Uday Samant told the Legislative Assembly on Monday, July 7, that the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be operational by September. Samant said that 95% work is done. Once opened, limited services will begin in the first phase, with the second phase starting a few months later.

He said the airport was earlier planned to open by the end of August, but due to extended work, launch has been delayed by a month.

Samant was speaking during a detailed discussion on investment in Maharashtra.

When asked about the financial condition of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, he said its liabilities have reached INR 2.32 lakh crore. This was a 22% rise from the previous year. However, he denied that poor governance was responsible for the increase.

Additionally, he said the state has realised 87% Memorandums of Understanding signed with companies. This is the highest in the country.
