On Tuesday, December 7, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) fined the management of the Grand Central Mall INR 50,000 for allegedly hiring staff who wasn’t fully inoculated against COVID-19, highlighted reports.
According to accounts, officials elaborated that during their visit to the mall, the NMMC team witnessed a staffer not donning a face mask. This led them to undertake the further inquiry.
During this, they were able to ascertain that the personnel wasn’t fully vaccinated against coronavirus. Post this, a fine of INR 50,000 was taken from the management of the mall.
Based on narratives, the Grand Central Mall is one of the biggest malls in Navi Mumbai and witnesses a significant amount of footfall. The number of visitors also considerably increases during the weekends.
Through means of its special vigilance team, the civic body is keeping an eye on malls and shopping centres in the vicinity. Several reports quoted an NMMC official who elucidated that not only did the employee not have a mask, but was also not vaccinated.
The official added that since this is a serious violation, the management was informed and the mall was fined INR 50,000. Further, the official remarked that according to the Epidemic Act and the new protocols, every individual working in an establishment must be fully vaccinated.
A report also quoted Abhijit Bangar, NMMC Commissioner, who stated that COVID-19 isn’t over and with the Omicron variant, lethargy isn’t acceptable. Bangar added that whilst they don’t wish to fine the whole management for an individual’s mistake, it's their onus to get everyone inoculated prior to hiring them.
