The Morbe dam area has received more rain this year than the city of Navi Mumbai and the Morbe dam is 93 percent full. During this monsoon, the water level of the dam has increased rapidly due to more rain than last year. Therefore, the people of Navi Mumbai hope to fill the dam 100 percent this year as well.
As there was less water in Morbe Dam before the monsoons, the municipality had to cut water in sections during summer. But due to heavy rains in the last few days, the water cut has been cancelled.
If the rains have cleared for a few days, since the rains have started again from Monday, the citizens are hoping that it will fill up as soon as possible. This year, if it rains for a few days in a row and about 650 to 700 mm of rain, there is hope to fill the dam 100 percent. Till June 15, only 78.60 mm of rainfall was recorded in the Morbe dam area. Due to this, only 26 percent water storage was left in Morbe Dam. Therefore, while supplying water in the municipal area, the municipality had further reduced the water supply in the evening.
A total of 3005 mm of rain has been received in the Morbe Dam area till Tuesday, August 20. This year compared to last year, despite more rain today, the water storage in the dam is low.
“Morbe Dam, which supplies water to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, has received good rainfall this year and if there is continuous rain of 600 to 700 mm, it is hoped that the dam will fill 100 percent. At present, Morbe Dam is more than 93 percent full,” said Vasant Padghan, Deputy Engineer, Morbe Dam Project
