Department-wise survey of dangerous buildings in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area has been conducted for the year 2024-2025 and after the survey, a total of 527 buildings in the Municipal Corporation area have been declared as dangerous buildings under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.


In this, 62 buildings fall under the 'C-1' category of extremely dangerous, uninhabitable and immediate eviction, and 113 buildings fall under the 'C-2A' category of structural repairs with evacuation of the building and structural repairs without evacuation. 303 buildings falling under 'C-2B' category as well as 49 buildings falling under 'C-3' category for minor repairs, thus a total of 527 buildings have been declared on the list of dangerous buildings.


This list is made available for easy perusal on Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's website www.nmmc.gov.in under 'Department' section under 'Encroachment Department' information section. In this list, the names and details of 62 buildings mentioned in the 'C-1' category of extremely dangerous, uninhabitable and immediate eviction have been published in bold letters for the citizens to know easily.


The notice has been published in accordance with the provisions of Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. According to the Government circular dated 05 November 2015, the Government of Maharashtra, Urban Development Department has issued a written notice to the owners/occupiers living in the declared buildings that the building they are living in is dangerous for residential/commercial use and to immediately stop the residential/commercial use in these buildings and to demolish the construction of dangerous buildings without delay. It has also been clearly mentioned that the electricity and water connection of the building in 'C-1' category will be disconnected.

Owners or occupiers of such declared dangerous buildings should immediately stop the residential / commercial use of the said building / structure and demolish the said building / structure without delay, considering the possibility of collapse of the building and financial loss. It is clearly indicated that if such action is not taken, the concerned will be solely responsible for the damage caused in case of collapse of the said building / structure, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation will not be responsible for the same.


In this notice, it is also recorded whether the residential use is in progress or not in front of the name of the dangerous buildings. According to the classification of the building, the occupants of the building should vacate the building immediately or vacate the building and carry out structural repairs as per the classification. It has been clarified that the Municipal Corporation will not be responsible for any dangerous situation in this regard. However, it is dangerous to use buildings/houses that have been damaged during monsoons. It can cause loss of life and money. Therefore, on behalf of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, an appeal is being made to the citizens to immediately stop the habitation / use of dangerous buildings / houses, otherwise it is to be noted that in case of an unfortunate accident, the entire responsibility will remain with the concerned.
